I realize work is a elusive concept. I love to sit, think about it, plan it then watch someone else do it. I'm not sure I have ever seen anyone finish work.
Three
or four years ago, my friend Skunk did a remodeling and updating job
on his lake side residence next to mine on Smoke lake. He started
with a simple task, a new stove in the kitchen. That grew into a new
deck, Just the other day he remarked he was finally done. Just had to
wire the shed for electricity. Add some lights and paint. Finished
work is rather an elusive idea.
A few
of the other neighbors viewed this activity with suspicion at first.
But came to realize a deck may be a decent idea. Before the month was
up, new decks, sheds and paint was the norm. Bragging about the work
yet to be done was becoming the normal topic of conversation. When
various neighbors stopped around for a brewski, the talk turned from
fishing to color schemes, price of materials and new construction
methods.
Toward
the end of the fishing season, I succumbed to the frenzy. I needed a
few improvements around my place. With this in mind, I bought a few
small cans of bright paint. I painted a few old car hubcaps various
colors, hung them on the outside wall of my 'Wolf Den'. This action
had a positive effect on the neighbors. They stopped coming around.
My brewski bill dwindled. I went fishing more often.
I'm
thinking this improvement thing may not be all that bad. I think a
bigger place is in order. I’ll have more improvements to do. As I
said, a frenzy. Not a good idea. It creates, what? Oh yes, more work.
